LUBE bar was opened in September 2004 by John and Tracy Cantle after a trip to Ellerslie in September 2003 saw them looking at the ‘For Lease’ sign in the window in the old Mobil garage. Six weeks of trying to lease the space left them empty handed; but the name LUBE was born.

Weeks later, opportunity knocked once again when Baksho’s gift shop came up for sale. By now John and Tracy were emotionally attached to opening their dream bar in Ellerslie and soon found themselves the proud owners of a gift shop!

January 2004, and the application for resource consent was in progress. John could now approach Mark Ellerston, who was one of the vital pieces to the puzzle.
A planned opening for the 1st of May went by so did the 1st of June, July and August. Finally on September 26th 2004 LUBE opened its doors, a Little Unique Bar in Ellerslie designed for great service, great music and great times!!

After two and a half years of successful trading LUBE changed hands and is now owned by Ellerslie locals Louise and Andrew.

Louise and Andrew have had over ten years experience in the hospitality industry both as owners and suppliers and saw a good opportunity in this unique little bar. It has been business as usual ever since with Mark still at the helm. Minor changes include the installation of two 50” plasma TV screens downstairs and a sound system upgrade. More seating and an expanded menu is now available and further improvements are in the pipeline to cater for our after work visitors. The 100” screen is still available in the Heineken boardroom upstairs.
